Introduction
Zeolite catalyst ZSM-35 (Zeolite Socony Mobil-35 or ZSM-35 zeolite powder), is a synthetic zeolite with a crystal type of FER. The skeleton of ZSM-35 is a two-dimensional channel system, consisting of 0.42 nm×0.54 nm ten-membered ring straight channels and 0.34 nm×0.48 nm eight-membered ring straight channels that intersect with each other. Its typical effective pore size is approximately 0.4–0.5 nm, exhibiting a significant molecular sieving effect.
ZSM-35 molecular sieve is a mesoporous zeolite, characterized by its unique cross-channel system. It has high silica content, excellent acidity, thermal stability, and shape selectivity, which enables it to exhibit superior activity in catalytic reactions. ZSM-35 possess strong Brønsted acid centers, and the acidity and acid center density can be controlled by adjusting the silica-alumina ratio.
The most important and representative application of ZSM-35 zeolite catalyst is the low-carbon olefin isomerization, particularly the production of isobutylene from n-butene. In the light olefin conversion, the pore confinement effect of ZSM-35 molecular sieve can promote the selective conversion of molecules of specific sizes. As an acidic solid catalyst, ZSM-35 zeolite is also used in etherification, isomerization, and alkylation reactions in the fine chemical industry.
