Introduction
Activated alumina catalyst carrier, is a series of aluminum oxide specially designed for industrial catalytic applications. It can be in the form of a white powder or in the solid form of aluminum oxide (e.g. beads, strips). Bead and strip alumina are mostly used as catalyst support in fixed bed reactors, while microsphere alumina is mostly used in fluidized bed reactors.
Activated alumina catalyst carriers can be customized in various morphology, strength, crystalline shape, specific surface area, pore volume, pore size distribution, surface acid and base strength. For example: the crystalline forms can be alumina trihydrate, alumina hydrate, X, ρ, γ and α, which are widely used in the production of catalysts by iso-impregnation and over-impregnation methods. Besides, the loaded precious metals (such as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, transition metals iron, manganese, copper, zinc, etc.) can be highly dispersed on the carriers.
Activated alumina has a wide range of applications in petrochemicals, environmental protection and fine chemicals, as a catalyst carrier for hydrodesulfurization (HDS), hydronitrogenation (HDN), hydrocracking, oxidation, dehydrogenation, and etc. With its excellent pore structure, mechanical properties and thermal stability, activated alumina can significantly improve the dispersibility, reactivity and service life of catalysts, and it is one of the most widely used industrial catalyst carrier materials.
