Introduction
Montmorillonite acid catalyst is a heterogeneous acid catalyst based on natural or acid-activated montmorillonite clay. Through controlled acid activation and modification, the material provides accessible acidic sites and a porous structure, making it a cost-effective alternative to conventional liquid acid catalysts and certain synthetic solid acids.
The montmorillonite-based acid clay catalyst features a high surface area, tunable acidity, porous structure, good adsorption capacity, and relatively easy separation and handling. Its acid strength and pore properties can be adjusted through activation conditions or further modification, allowing the catalyst to be tailored for different reaction systems while maintaining good thermal and chemical stability.
As a solid acid catalyst, montmorillonite-based catalyst can be used in a variety of acid-catalyzed organic reactions, including aromatic amine alkylation, aromatic and olefin alkylation, esterification, transesterification, etherification, dehydration, isomerization, condensation, and selected hydrocarbon conversion processes.
