Introduction

 

MCM-48 zeolite catalyst is a silicon-based molecular sieve material with a highly ordered three-dimensional mesoporous structure, typically featuring a cubic Ia3d framework. MCM-48 is usually synthesized using high-purity silicon sources, and its pore size is typically in the range of approximately 2–4 nm.

 

MCM-48 molecular sieve possesses two interconnected but independent three-dimensional pore networks, resulting in excellent molecular mass transfer capabilities and high resistance to pore clogging. Its ultra-high specific surface area reaches 1703 m²/g, with relatively large mesopore sizes of approximately 2–4 nm and pore volumes exceeding 1.0 cm³/g. This significant advantage in mesopore size makes it more suitable for processing larger organic molecules.

 

Pure silica MCM-48 is inherently weakly acidic. In catalytic applications, they are often modified by introducing elements (such as Al, Ti, Fe, Zr, and etc.) to increase acidic centers or redox active centers. Therefore, catalysts and catalyst supports are crucial applications for MCM-48. Besides, the ultra-high specific surface area, large pore volume, and tunable mesoporous structure of MCM-48 make it suitable for CO2 capture and other adsorption applications.
