Introduction
C type silica gel or silica gel C, is an amorphous, highly active adsorbent material with a coarse-pore structure, and it appears as a milky white granular. Silica gel C has an average pore size of 8–10 nm, which is a type of mesoporous silica gel. Type C silica gel has a relatively concentrated pore distribution, exhibiting excellent performance in medium-to-high humidity adsorption and liquid adsorption applications.
The main component of type C silica gel is also silicon dioxide, containing crystalline water. It is insoluble in water and organic solvents and possesses non-toxicity, no odor, resistance to strong acids (except hydrofluoric acid), and high temperature resistance (up to 300℃). Due to its larger pore size, type C silica gel possesses a larger pore volume, faster adsorption rate, and lower capillary condensation pressure, making it more suitable for adsorbing larger molecules.
Type C silica gel is primarily used for industrial air drying, or as packaging desiccant in pharmaceutical purification and separation, moisture-proofing of items, pet breeding etc. Silica gel C can also serves as a catalyst carrier in certain catalytic applications, a foundational raw material for the further processing of fine-pore silica gel products.
